Mickey Jackson VS. Jacko Lantern—Lantern.
OCW’s first show back for 2015 wasted no time getting into the action, with Jacko Lantern making his second appearance after last Halloween to take on Mickey Jackson. Jackson used his trademark posturing to rile up the crowd in Ashwood, but ultimately Lantern emerged victorious with a chokeslam after a fast paced, even-keeled match.
Everyone’s favourite (ahem) champion, Andy Phoenix, graced us with his presence and was sure to tell everyone that he’s OCW’s only champion. One of Phoenix’ opponents, Brad Smyth, entered the arena to introduce himself as the guy who’s going to beat Phoenix for his title “in a flash”. The third man—if you can call him that—involved in that match up later in the night, Syd Parker, appeared from out of nowhere to clear his opponents out of the ring. Phoenix skulked away with his title in tact, but for how much longer?
Zac Attack VS. Slade Mercer--Mercer.
It seemed that newcomer Zac had no chance against the Kiwi behemoth Mercer in a match that lasted not much longer than the three count that put Zac away.
Maddog VS. JXT—Maddog.
JXT entered the OCW arena to chants of “Maddog’s gonna kill you”, in a show of respect to the hardcore legend. Not to be outdone, JXT certainly lived up to the expectations put on him in this match and powerbombed Maddog on the outside early on. He also utilised the guardrails in an attempt to put Maddog down in between chest chops to rival Ric Flair’s and working a hostile yet interactive crowd. JXT’s valiant effort wasn’t enough to avoid Maddog’s piledriver for the win.
Cody Swift VS. Gabriel Wolfe—Wolfe.
Echoing Mercer’s earlier decimation of Zac Attack, Wolfe similarly made quick work of another wrestler making his OCW debut, Cody Swift. Wolfe’s Lockjaw ensured his imminent victory.
Demi VS. Kellyanne—Demi.
Yet another OCW debut saw Kellyanne get some fresh meat to work her aggression out on. Demi wasn’t letting Kellyanne make quick work of her, though, locking up in a selection of impressive technical holds. Kellyanne spat at the crowd for calling her all manner of derogatory names, but it was Demi with a dropkick off the top rope that secured the 1,2,3.
After intermission, TNA and The Amazing Race star Robbie E was announced as February’s international guest.
OCW Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match: Andy Phoenix VS. Brad Smyth VS. Syd Parker—Phoenix.
The inclusion of Smyth and Parker was just what OCW needed to inject some variety into the heavyweight championship scene that has seen Phoenix decimate in past months. At first glance the different styles of the three competitors may have clashed, but they proved to be a perfect combination in a fast-paced match to rival another triple threat on everyone’s lips this month. The three men traded kicks heard ’round Australia and took in turns teaming to outnumber each other. At one point the action spilled to the outside and Parker made use of his strange reputation by biting Smyth’s face! After impressive battles put up by Smyth and Parker, it wasn’t enough to prevent Phoenix from retaining his title via pinfall.
Everyone’s favourite bogan, Cletus, clambered to the ring on crutches to introduce his replacement in the tag team tournament, Vixsin, because “why send a man to do a woman’s job?”
OCW Tag Team Tournament Elimination Match: The Loose Bastards KrackerJak & Adam Brooks VS. The Arm Dragons Josh Shooter & Joel Bateman VS. Cadman & Vixsin VS. Chicos de Lucha—Loose Bastards.
Finally, the tournament that’s been brewing for months had arrived. With this many men and women involved in the action at any one time, it soon spilled to the outside with Vixsin, followed by Brooksy and the Chicos, suicide diving onto all other participants! A much-improved Shooter had to carry his team for a portion of the match as Bateman’s shoulder popped out of its socket midway through! After a double powerbomb/chokeslam from the team of Cadman and Vixsin (Cadsin?), Chicos de Lucha were the first team to be eliminated. That’s where their chemistry ended, though, as Cadman accidentally took out Vixsin with a clothesline and effectively eliminated their team, meaning we were left with the Bastards and the Dragons. With Bateman injured but still attempting to get involved in the action, it wasn’t enough to avoid multiple Swanton bombs by Brooksy and Krackers’ Britney Spear for the win to be crowned OCW’s first ever Tag Team Champions!
As the Loose Bastards celebrated in the ring Andy Phoenix made his presence felt by introducing a last minute addition to the tournament: the team of Gabriel Wolfe and Slade Mercer, his close personal friends who just so happened to impressively decimate their singles opponents earlier in the night. As the crowd erupted in disgruntled boos, Brooks and Krackers fought into the crowd for their titles, proving that you don’t mess with Loose Bastards. After yet another hellacious battle, they remain your new OCW Tag Team Champions!
